I thought the 'tin foil hat' trick for static-sensitive parts was a total joke until a senior tech in Anchorage made me try it on a stubborn LRU last month.

I was convinced it was shop lore, but wrapping the connector in actual kitchen foil before handling cleared up the intermittent fault on a G1000 display unit that had three of us stumped for a day... anyone else ever had a 'hokey' fix actually work on the line?

So what was the actual fault in the end?

No way, that's wild! I read a forum thread once where a guy swore by the "freezer trick" for a dead hard drive. He'd wrap it in a towel, stick it in the freezer for a bit, and it would spin up long enough to pull data off. Sounded like total nonsense to me, but so many people in the comments said it worked in a pinch. Makes you wonder how many of these weird fixes are just dumb luck or if there's some real science behind them, lol.

Ever tried the freezer trick yourself? I'm too scared I'd just end up with a dead drive and a bag of frozen peas that smell like fear.
