Overheard a QA guy doubting our crimp tool calibration logs

Last Tuesday in the hangar at MCO, this inspector told our lead that the torque wrench certs we file are just for show, since nobody checks the actual crimp die wear. Took me a second to realize he had a point, I've seen dies with nicks pass visual checks for months. Anyone else run into auditors who question the paperwork over the physical tool condition?

Has anyone thought about how the die wear itself might be skewing what those torque logs actually prove, since a worn die can make a crimp look good on paper but fail under load in the field? Honestly, that inspector might be onto something deeper, because I've seen calibration certs pass while the tool itself was basically rounding off terminals, and nobody flagged it until a pull test failed. Tbh, the real fix is doing a quick visual die check before each shift, not just trusting the paperwork to cover everything.
