Question about that new fiber optic crimper from Apex Tools
I saw a post last month saying the Apex FC-2000 was just a rebranded cheap tool, so I ignored it. Then my buddy in Seattle showed me his, and the crimps passed every spec check on our test bench. He said, 'The alignment sleeve is what makes it work right.' I had to eat my words and order one the next day. Has anyone else put this crimper through its paces on actual aircraft fiber runs?

That alignment sleeve is actually a standard part of any LC connector, not something special from Apex.

Ugh, didn't they make it sound like some custom part? I've seen that kind of thing before where a company acts like a basic piece is their own special design. Makes you wonder what else they're just repackaging as premium, right?

My buddy got sold a "proprietary" cable management clip last year. Paid like fifteen bucks each for them. Turns out they were just standard office binder clips with the silver arms pulled off. He had a whole box of them in his desk drawer.
