Rant: A pilot in Kansas City told me his autopilot felt 'mushy' on final approach.

I spent two days checking the servos and control laws, but the issue was a slightly worn bushing in the yoke linkage that the flight control computer couldn't compensate for. How often do you guys find the root cause is a simple mechanical wear item, not the avionics box itself?

Last year I spent a whole weekend chasing a weird trim feel on a Citation. I mean, I was deep in the manuals convinced it was a software bug. Turned out to be a loose bolt on a trim tab hinge, something you could spot from ten feet away. Felt like a total genius after that, let me tell you. It happens way more than I'd like to admit. You get so focused on the fancy boxes you forget to check if the thing is actually bolted together right.

How many times have I done the exact same thing?

But is it really that big of a deal? We all get stuck on small stuff sometimes. It's just part of the job, not some huge failure. You fix it and move on, no need to feel bad about it. Why make it into a bigger story than it is?
