Showerthought: I was crimping D-sub pins for a solid year before a guy in Anchorage pointed out my tool was set wrong.

I argued that my connections passed continuity, but he showed me the cold weld under magnification. How many 'good enough' habits are we all carrying around?

Oh man, that reminds me of how I used to wire outlets. I'd just wrap the wire around the screw and tighten it, which worked fine. Then an electrician friend saw me and showed me how to bend the wire into a proper hook shape under the screw. The connection is way more solid, and it just looks right. I'd been doing it the lazy way for years.

My buddy's house almost burned down from a bad outlet connection.

That story from @elizabethg85 is a real wake-up call... I read once that most electrical fires start at connections that looked fine. It's scary how a tiny bad habit can sit there for years, just waiting to cause trouble. Makes you wonder what else we're all doing wrong without knowing.
