TIL a $6 continuity tester beats my fancy multimeter for wire hunting
Been chasing a chafed wire in a Cessna 172 belly harness for three days with my Fluke, and it kept giving me false ohms readings through the corroded shield. Picked up one of those cheap beeping testers at the Grainger in Wichita, clipped it on, and it chirped right at the break in about ten minutes. Anyone else keep a dummy-simple tester in their bag just for this, or am I the only one who got burned by my own meter?

Oh man, that Fluke probably felt real smug for three days while you were chasing ghosts. My dumb little beeper has saved my butt more times than I care to count, and honestly it's embarrassing. I once spent an afternoon mad at a multimeter that was reading through a wet boot, then the $9 tester chirped at the spot before I even finished my coffee. Guess we both learned that fancy brains are great until they outsmart themselves. Now the cheap one rides shotgun in the tool bag and the expensive one stays home for the stuff that actually needs it lol.
