Appreciation post: My neighbor in Phoenix told me to ignore the hype on that new payment app

He said the fees were hidden and it would lock up my cash for three days, and he was right. I tried it for a $200 transfer and it took forever to clear, plus they took a $5 'processing' fee I didn't see at first. Anyone else get burned by a 'next big thing' in fintech that was just a hassle?

My buddy got totally hooked on one of those apps that rounds up your change to invest. Sounded smart, right? Well, after six months he checked and the fees had eaten almost all the tiny gains he made. He basically paid them to hold his own spare change, which is kind of wild when you think about it. He closed the account and just puts that round-up money in a jar now. Sometimes the old way is just less of a headache.

Man, does anyone remember those early days of mobile check deposit? I was so proud of myself for being high tech until my bank held a check for like two weeks. I felt like a real pioneer, pioneering the art of being broke and waiting.
