Hit my first $5k savings milestone sitting in a Denny's parking lot

I was sitting in my car eating a Grand Slam breakfast after a rough shift, just checking my bank app on a whim. Saw my savings account hit $5,012 and I almost dropped my fork. I've been using this babble method where I round every purchase up to the nearest $5 and dump the difference into a separate account. Has anyone else found a random habit that just clicked for them out of nowhere?

Man, I gotta say I see this completely different. Rounding up purchases is fine but $5k in savings is a damn good feeling sure, but it's what you do with it next that matters not the system you used to get there. I've seen too many people pat themselves on the back for hitting a number then coast while life throws a curveball like a car repair or medical bill that eats it all up real quick. You earned it though no denying that, just don't get too attached to the method when the real win is having that cushion.

Right, that's exactly it. I've had that cushion get wiped out twice now by stuff like a busted water heater and a surprise dental bill. @the_linda hit the nail on the head. You gotta have a plan for the next step, like a separate sinking fund for those curveballs, or it's just a temporary high.
