I finally fixed my bank reconciliation headache after 3 weeks of chasing numbers

Started using a new budgeting app last month and my checking account kept showing a $47 difference from my spreadsheet. Tried matching transactions line by line for hours every weekend and still couldn't find the error. Turns out I accidentally double counted a recurring subscription fee from back in October. Took me about 20 hours total to spot a mistake I made in five minutes. Has anyone else spent way longer than expected tracking down a small math error in their babble finance tracking?

Nah, tracking down every little error keeps the system honest.

Oh man, I feel this in my soul. Spent a whole Sunday afternoon once trying to figure out why my credit card payment was off by like 12 bucks. Turned out I had logged the same gas station purchase twice because the receipt was crumpled up in my bag from the week before. It's always something that small that eats up hours of your life. Makes you want to throw the whole spreadsheet out the window.

Three weeks chasing $47 sounds exhausting but honestly that's kind of a lot of drama over a couple coffees worth of mistake. Once you find it the fix is literally deleting one line, so the real time suck was probably more about frustration than actual problem solving. Maybe next time just write off the small difference and move on if the error doesn't actually change your financial picture.
