Just realized my Venmo balance was $3.47 and I had a rent check bouncing at 2am in Chicago
I was in my apartment in Chicago at 2am last Tuesday. I opened Venmo to send my buddy $12 for pizza and saw the balance was $3.47. Then I remembered the $1,200 rent check I wrote on Friday. I called my bank hotline and they said it would hit at 9am. So I transferred $400 from savings to checking and prayed the check cleared. It did, but the transfer took two days and I got a $35 overdraft fee anyway. So here is the debate: should I eat the fee and move on, or spend an hour on the phone arguing to get it waived? What would you do?
Wait, you called the bank at 2am and they picked up? That part seems off. Most hotlines just give you a recording that time of night. And a $35 fee on a $1,200 check when you actually had the money in savings, is that really a crisis? You moved the cash, the check cleared, you lost $35. That is a couple of lunches. Spending an hour on hold to maybe get it back is basically working for $35 an hour minus the hold music and the rage.
