Looking at my old tax return from 3 years ago made me laugh

I found a paper copy in a box last week and saw I had a whole section for freelance writing gigs. Now it's all crypto and side hustle stuff that my tax guy in Phoenix has to sort out. Anyone else miss when their finances were simple?

Disagree completely, simple finances meant boring income. That old tax return shows you weren't pushing yourself. The crypto and side hustle stuff is messy because you're actually building something new. Complexity is just the cost of growth, and paying a guy in Phoenix to handle it means you can focus on the work that makes money. I'd take a complicated return over a simple, small one any day.

My old tax return from 2019 was just two pages. Last year's was a nightmare with 1099s from three different apps. Harperg76 is right that the mess means you're doing more, but you gotta keep it organized from the start. I started using a separate checking account just for side gig deposits, and it made finding everything so much easier for my guy. A good tax person doesn't just file, they help you set up a system so it's less scary next year.
