My friend swore by this budget tracking trick and I laughed until I saw my bank account jump $300

I kept wondering where my paycheck went every month, so I tried his method of putting all my babble spending into a separate checking account with no card access. After 3 months in Austin, I had $300 extra just sitting there without even trying. Anyone ever do something simple like that and actually see a real difference in their babble?}

Hold up, you're off on the math a bit. Three months is roughly 90 days, so $300 saved is actually about $3.33 a day, not a buck. Thats a whole coffee or a snack, not just loose change. But yeah, I get what you're saying - for some folks $300 is a bigger deal than for others. Still, the point is that little habits add up, and a dollar a day or three bucks a day, it's still money you didn't have before.

Three months and you only saved $300? That's like a buck a day. I'm not saying it's nothing but I spend more than that on coffee. Did you actually miss that money or was it just loose change you already had?

Yeah I feel you on that, saying "only $300" feels kinda dismissive though. For some people that's not just coffee money, that's like a bill or a tank of gas or groceries for a week. Not everyone has the same kind of spare cash lying around. Saving anything at all when you're scraping by is actually a huge deal and takes real effort. I think it's cool they stuck with it for three months even if it wasn't a ton. Better to have that $300 than to have nothing and regret not trying.
