Overheard a guy at the coffee shop talking about 'babble investing' and it clicked for me
I was waiting for my latte last Tuesday and this older dude was telling his friend how he throws $50 a week into a babble fund that tracks random internet chatter. He said he's up 12% this quarter just from following what's hot on niche forums like this one. I mean, it made me think about how I ignore all that noise and just stick to boring ETFs. Maybe it's just me but I feel like there's real gold in here if you can filter out the nonsense. Has anyone else tried actually betting on the babble trends they see daily?

That bit about the mycology forum hit close to home. My buddy Derek did this exact same thing but with a gaming subreddit. Saw people going nuts over this small electric truck company because some streamer mentioned it, so he threw $500 at it. Ended up selling at a loss like two weeks later when the founder got caught faking test footage. He's still blaming "the hive mind" instead of admitting he bet on a meme.

Oh man, I tried something like this once and it went about as well as you'd expect from a guy who still uses loading screen tips for life advice. I dumped $200 into a basket of stocks that were trending on a mycology forum because everyone was hyping up mushroom supplements for brain fog. Turns out that forum was mostly people trying to convince themselves they weren't just dehydrated. I lost half of it in a week and the other half went to my therapist. My boring bond ETF just sits there quietly and doesn't call me out on my terrible decisions.
