Set aside $300 a month for a year in a coffee can and now I can't decide if I should move it
Started stuffing $300 into an old Folgers can back in January of 2024, mostly because a buddy at work in Columbus kept bragging about his savings and I got tired of hearing it. That can has been sitting in my closet for a year and change now and I finally dumped it on the bed last weekend to count. $3,650. All cash, no interest, just sitting there losing ground to inflation. My wife says put it all toward the truck loan which is at 6.9 percent. Her brother says dump it in an index fund and forget it. I like having some cash I can actually touch, but I know a can in a closet is not really a plan. Feels dumb to have it just sitting when it could be working somewhere. Do I clear the truck debt or split it up, and does anyone have a way to decide this that isn't just flipping a coin?
