Spent $60 on a digital caliper that gave different readings every time compared to my trusty old analog one

I do a lot of mechanical work that needs precise measurements, and I figured a digital caliper would make things faster. That thing gave me 0.001 inch variation just by squeezing it a little different. My analog caliper from the 80s is dead consistent every time. Anyone else just stick with the old tools because the new ones are too finicky?

Bought a cheap digital one once and went right back to my old analog caliper within a week.

Was it the lag that annoyed you or just the battery dying at bad times?

Feel your pain man. I dropped $80 on a Mitutoyo digital once and returned it same week because the readings drifted every time I set it down on the table. My old Starrett analog from the 90s never lets me down, just takes a second longer to read the dial. Stick with what works, that's my rule now for anything precision related.
