Vent: the bank on Grand Ave charges me $35 to move my own money
Went into the branch on Grand Ave last Tuesday to move some cash into a savings account, and the teller tells me there is a $35 fee for going under the minimum balance. Nobody mentioned that when I opened the thing. I get that banks need to make money, but $35 just to keep $800 in a savings account feels like a slap in the face. Has anyone found a bank that does not pull this kind of stuff on small accounts?
Man, $35 does sting but is it really the bank being evil or did you just not read the fine print? Every savings account I have ever had comes with a minimum balance rule, and yeah they all charge you when you dip under it. Mine is $300 minimum or I get hit with $10 a month, so $35 once is annoying but not exactly robbery. The trick is most of these fees get waived if you set up direct deposit or keep like $500 in there. Call them and ask if they can refund it one time, banks do that all the time for first offenses. Or just move to a credit union, they tend to be way more chill about small accounts.
