Why does nobody talk about hobby tax babble?

I started selling knit scarves, and the tax code for hobby income is absurd. Now I spend more time deciphering forms than actually knitting.

Ugh, tell me about it! I got so lost in the deduction rules last year that my scarves started looking like abstract art. At this point, the government probably gets more hours of my labor than any customer. It's like they want to turn every fun side thing into a second, worse job. My new hobby is just figuring out my hobby taxes.

Oh man, the tax code is basically a full time job you have to pay for. My friend tried to write off her "home office" which was just a corner of the kitchen, and now she's terrified of an audit every time she uses the toaster. They make it so hard to win.
