A ranger in Glacier told me to skip the Highline Trail in July and take the loop below it instead
I was set on doing the Highline Trail last July and a ranger at the Apgar station told me the snowpack would still be wall to wall up there and suggested the loop around Two Medicine instead. I figured he just wanted fewer people on his trail but I listened anyway. Ended up with dry feet the whole 18 miles and talked to a couple who tried the Highline that same weekend and turned around at the haystack because of a snowdrift. Now I always ask the ranger before locking in a route. Anyone else had a ranger steer them to a totally different trail and it worked out better?
