I was sure a $120 satellite messenger was a waste for weekend trips

Then I took a bad fall on the High Sierra Trail last month and couldn't walk. Hitting that SOS button was the only way to get help out there. The rescue team said my spot signal is what let them find me so fast in that thick forest. Anyone have a lighter, cheaper safety tool they actually trust for shorter hikes?
