My GPS unit took a swim in a creek and I lost all my track data

Was crossing a rocky stream on the Appalachian Trail near Standing Indian Mountain around mile 70, slipped on a wet boulder and dunked my handheld Garmin in the water. It bricked instantly and I had to backtrack with just a paper map for 3 days till I hit a hostel with a charger - anyone else had their electronics die mid-route and had to rely on old-school navigation?

Wait, you really had to go 3 days with just a paper map? That's wild, I would've panicked and probably ended up lost in some hollow. I've had my phone die on a day hike once and felt completely naked without GPS, can't imagine pushing through multiple days like that. Good on you for keeping your head and actually knowing how to use a map though, most people would've been totally screwed.

Panicked and probably ended up lost in some hollow" is basically my autobiography.
