My tent pole snapped on the first night of the Lost Coast Trail
Heard that awful crack right as the wind picked up. Used some duct tape and a spare tent stake as a splint, and it held for the rest of the trip, lol. Anyone have a better field fix for a broken pole section?

My buddy had that happen on a section of the PCT. He cut a small green branch to the right length, whittled it smooth, and slid it inside the broken pole section like a sleeve. He wrapped the whole thing in a ton of athletic tape from his first aid kit. It was a little heavy but it got his tent up for two more nights until the next town.

That PCT fix @blair_webb mentioned is solid, but I'd worry about the green wood shrinking as it dries and getting loose.

That sounds like a lot of worry over a temporary fix.
