Question about losing the trail in fog on the High Peaks loop near Mount Marcy
Two summers ago on the Van Hoevenberg trail near Mount Marcy, a thick fog rolled in and covered the yellow blazes on the rocks. I stopped, backed up about 50 feet until I found the last marker I was sure of, then walked slow from blaze to blaze instead of guessing ahead. Took me an extra hour to reach Marcy Dam, but I stayed on route the whole time. Does anyone else have a trick for finding blazes when the fog gets thick?
