Rain turned the JMT into a muddy mess for 4 straight days
Started at Tuolumne Meadows last August and hit a storm system that dumped nonstop until Red's Meadow. My pack liner leaked on day 2 so everything smelled like wet socks, but the creek crossings were wild and I actually loved the empty trail. Anyone else ever get lucky with a bad forecast clearing out the crowds?

Always figured rain was the worst thing that could happen on trail, but honestly that trip flipped me. I remember one afternoon near Silver Pass, horizontal rain for like 5 hours and I just stopped caring, sat on a rock and ate a soggy PB&J while watching waterfalls appear out of nowhere. The mud was hell, sure, and my shoes never dried out, but seeing zero tents at every camp was a trade I'd make again. Now I actually check the forecast for storms before I pick a week, kinda hoping for the washout. It's like the trail gives you a private showing or something.
