Shoutout to the ranger at Yosemite who set me straight on water crossings
Last weekend I was planning a trip through the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne and I stopped at the visitor center to grab a map. The ranger asked about my route and when I mentioned crossing Piute Creek she just shook her head. She told me I was basing my timing on summer flow data from two years ago and the snowmelt this spring was way above normal. She pulled up a graph showing creek levels were still 3 feet higher than usual for mid-June. I had to completely rework my itinerary and push the crossing to late afternoon when the water drops. Has anyone else had a ranger totally change their plans with a good tip?

Oh man, that ranger basically saved you from becoming a human popsicle! I had a similar thing happen once where a ranger told me my "shortcut" was actually just a dried-up riverbed in winter, which I totally believed because I'm great at reading maps when I'm not looking at them.
