That $85 rain shell fell apart after one real storm on the Timberline Trail
I bought an ultralight rain jacket from a brand I'd seen praised all over Reddit. It felt fine in the store, so I took it on the Timberline Trail around Mount Hood last August. The first afternoon we got hit with a steady downpour and within two hours the seams started peeling and my base layer was soaked. I spent $85 on that thing and had to buy a cheap poncho at a gas station in Government Camp just to finish the trip. It's basically a windbreaker now. Has anyone else had good luck with the heavier 3-layer shells for PNW trips, or am I just doomed to carry extra ounces?

Ugh, that sucks. The heavy shells are worth it for our weather, tbh.

Wait, heavy shells are actually a thing people buy on purpose?? I thought everyone just dealt with whatever jacket they had and complained about it all winter lol. The last time I wore something that bulky I felt like a walking sleeping bag. Do you live somewhere with actual snow or is this like a wind thing?
