The water crossing I thought would take 10 minutes took 3 hours
I was hiking the Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon last summer and hit a stream crossing around noon. Looked like a simple rock hop from the trail, maybe 15 feet wide. But the water was way higher than expected from snowmelt, and I spent an hour scouting up and down the bank for a safe spot. Then I had to take my boots off, cross in camp shoes, and dry my feet on the other side. By the time I got back on trail, I had lost almost the whole afternoon. Has anyone else had a simple creek crossing turn into a half-day ordeal?

joel_martinez said his driveway turned into a river and I feel that. That "classic Sierra snowmelt nightmare" is real. I did a crossing near Bishop last year that was supposed to be a quick hop and ended up waist deep, losing a hiking pole in the process. Took forever to fish it out and dry off.

Yeah @harperg76, my driveway turned into a river last spring after three days of that melt... I'd start sandbagging anything below the house right now if you haven't already.
