Three miles into the JMT and my filter died, went 2 days on iodine tabs
Read a gear survey where 20% of Sawyer filters freeze-crack on the first night, guess I found out the hard way near Reds Meadow. Anyone else carry a backup gravity filter after a failure like this?

My backup plan after a freeze crack is now duct tape and prayers, so you're already ahead of me with the iodine tabs. Gravity filters are nice until you realize you're just carrying a heavier way to watch water drip while your legs cramp. Lesson learned twice now, third time I'm just bringing a pot and boiling like it's 1999.
