Okay but honestly how bad was the damage? Like was this a $15 Amazon special or an actual decent tripod? I've dropped my cheap one on rocks plenty of times and it just bent a little, still worked fine for the rest of the trip. Kinda feels like people blow these things way out of proportion unless you were doing some super precise astrophotography or something.

And that's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the post, honestly. Like, depending on how it broke, you might have just been better off wedging it with a rock and a prayer for the rest of the trip. Everyone makes a big deal about "losing a shot" but half the time you can just lean it on your pack or a log and get a decent enough picture anyway. Unless you're out there trying to do some long exposure star trail stuff, in which case yeah, that's a real bummer, but for a day hike you just work around it.
