Warning: Choosing between the John Muir Trail and the Wonderland Trail is harder than it looks
I had to pick one for my big trip this year and went with the Wonderland Trail around Mount Rainier. It's only 93 miles, but the constant up and down was way tougher than I expected, even compared to my friend's stories about the JMT. Has anyone else done both and found one significantly more challenging?

Forget the total miles, how much total climbing did you actually do on the Wonderland? I heard it's something like 22,000 feet of gain. That's a brutal average per mile. Was the challenge more about the nonstop, short, steep climbs compared to the JMT's longer passes?

Man, that's a great point about the climb profile. So beyond the total gain, was it the relentless, punchy nature of the climbs that really wore you down, more than just the big numbers?
