Appreciation post: Friend told me my bad movie picks were "too predictable"

I always picked so-bad-they're-good movies with big explosions or cheesy monsters. My buddy Mike finally said "you always pick the same kind of crap." So last week I grabbed The Room instead. Complete game changer. The awkward silences and bad acting had us crying laughing. Has anyone else had their movie night saved by a specific suggestion?

Honestly this is way bigger than just movie night. The same thing happens with music, food, even what podcasts people suggest. Everyone gets stuck in their own little bubble of what works and what's comfortable. Tbh the real trick isn't just picking something different, it's letting someone else pick for you. Mike forced you out of your comfort zone and it paid off big time. Ngl that's a lesson most people need to learn in way more parts of life, not just what to watch on Friday.

@casey_wood2 hit the nail on the head. I swear my friend group has the same three podcasts on repeat and we all act shocked when no one's excited about dinner. It's like we're scared of admitting we don't Actually know what's out there. Letting someone else pick the music at a party is basically an act of courage at this point.

Wait, isn't it kind of wild how one person calling out your predictable picks can totally change your whole approach to movie nights? I used to think I had the best taste but now I realize I was just picking the same safe stuff over and over.
