I finally saw why people love 'The Room' so much
I kept hearing folks rave about how hilarious Tommy Wiseau's movie is, but I figured they were just being ironic. Last week I finally sat down with a group of friends and watched the whole thing. Every weird line like 'You're tearing me apart, Lisa!' and those random football scenes had us laughing so hard we rewound them three times. Now I get it, these movies aren't about being good, they're about being a total trainwreck you can laugh at together. Anyone else have a so bad it's good film they avoided until someone finally talked them into it?

Wait, did you just say The Room works as horror? That's wild. I had a similar thing happen with a movie called "The Apple" from 1980. Saw it at a midnight screening with a crowd and we were dying laughing at the awful songs and weird plot. But then I watched it alone on a rainy Tuesday and it felt like some dystopian fever dream where everyone's brainwashed by bad disco. The whole vibe shifted. Like The Room, the badness is part of the charm but there's something off about it that hits you when you're not distracted by other people's reactions. Makes you wonder if Tommy Wiseau actually intended any of it or if it's just pure accident all the way down.

The thing nobody talks about is how "The Room" actually works as a pure horror movie if you watch it alone stone cold sober. The dead eyes, the weird pacing, the way everyone talks past each other like they're in different dimensions. It hits different without a room full of people laughing. Tommy Wiseau's performance feels less funny and more like watching someone drown in slow motion. That's the real creepy part nobody wants to admit about that film.

Watching someone drown in slow motion" is a pretty accurate review of my Friday nights.
