My uncle swore by The Room for bad movie nights back in 2008

He kept telling me it was the pinnacle of so-bad-it's-good cinema and I finally watched it last weekend... turns out he was right, that plastic spoon scene still cracks me up. Has anyone else had a recommendation from years ago that actually held up?

Gotta hard disagree with @the_lee on this one, the spoon scene is a masterpiece of accidental comedy and Wiseau's weird delivery makes the drama way more entertaining than any normal movie could ever be.

I read somewhere that The Room was originally supposed to be a straight drama but Tommy Wiseau just couldn't pull it off. Like the movie was meant to deal with serious stuff like betrayal and alcoholism but it's impossible to take seriously when the guy can't even land a single line of dialogue. The spoon thing is a meme for a reason, it's just so random. Still the plastic spoon scene and the stupid rooftop football are the parts that stick with me.

Yeah the thing about the spoons really gets me too. I had a buddy who tried to write a serious short film once and we ended up laughing through every take because the tone just didn't land the way he wanted. Sometimes you just gotta roll with what you get and let the accidental comedy happen.
