Rant: People keep calling The Room a 'so bad it's good' movie but I think there's a line

I'm saying The Room is too self aware to be a true bad movie classic. Look at the creepy sex scenes and deliberate camera zooms, Wiseau knew exactly what he was doing. Does everyone agree these tongue in cheek movies don't belong in the same category as genuine trainwrecks like Troll 2?

wait but if Wiseau was being deliberate about the badness, does that make it more like a parody than a genuine failure? like does the intent matter more than the result

Hmm I kinda wonder about that though. If someone sets out to make something that feels awkward and off and they actually pull it off, isn't that just good comedy? Like the intent HAS to count for something, otherwise we're saying a comedian isn't funny if they planned their jokes.

Guy I knew in college tried to make a "so bad it's good" horror movie on purpose. Rented a cabin, got his buddies, the whole thing. He kept yelling at the actors to overact and make the dialogue worse. Ended up just being boring. Nobody laughs at it, everybody just turns it off. Point is, you can't fake being that kind of bad. Wiseau's thing works because it's real.
