The cashier at a gas station in Tulsa told me 'The Room' was a masterpiece
I was buying snacks for our bad movie night and this guy working the counter saw my 'Troll 2' shirt and started talking about Tommy Wiseau like he was some kind of misunderstood genius... said the whole script was a modern poem about loyalty. Made me wonder if I've been watching these movies wrong this whole time. Anyone else ever had someone flip your opinion on a so-bad-it's-good classic?

Did you ever watch it with someone who took it dead serious the whole way through? I had a buddy who insisted The Room was an intentional dark comedy, and we got into a three hour argument about it. But sitting through it again with his commentary, I started seeing the weird sincerity underneath all the mistakes. That's when it clicked for me - the movie is more fun when you treat it like a genuine drama gone wrong instead of just a joke. Now I try to watch every bad movie with fresh eyes at least once before I make fun of it.

Man I used to just laugh through The Room from start to finish, never once thought there was anything else going on. But then I watched it with a film student who pointed out all the weird framing choices and the way Wiseau held certain shots way too long. Now I can't unsee it - there's actually this desperate loneliness in every scene that makes the bad acting hit different. Still cracks me up when he throws the football around, but I get what your cashier was saying now.
