Watched "The Room" for 5 years before I noticed the football scene was supposed to be funny
I used to think that movie was just a weird drama with bad acting. Then a friend pointed out the whole rooftop scene where they toss the football back and forth, and I just sat there confused. He started laughing his head off and said "you know this is supposed to be a comedy, right?" That's when it hit me that I had been taking it way too seriously for half a decade. Anyone else miss the joke for way too long?

Pretty sure I laughed at the serious parts and cried at the jokes.

laughed at the serious parts and cried at the jokes" - that's literally me with The Room. I spent two whole viewings thinking the "you're tearing me apart" scene was deep emotional trauma. Found out later it was just awkward improv. Still not sure if it's okay to laugh at the flower shop scene or if that's just me being broken.

omg the whole flower shop scene is a total coin toss for me too lol. i had to watch it twice before i realized it was supposed to be serious. what worked for me was just leaning into the confusion and treating it like a comedy anyway. once i accepted it's basically a weird soap opera that doesn't know what it wants to be, it got way more fun. now i laugh at the "i did not hit her" part every single time and i don't even feel bad about it.
