A customer told me my croissants were "too pretty to eat" and it stung way more than I expected

The comment about being "too pretty to eat" really gets at something tricky about food and art. I think the sting comes from the idea that you put all that work into making something that looks perfect, and then people are afraid to enjoy it. Maybe it would help to think of it as a compliment to your skill, even if it didn't land how they meant it. At the end of the day, a croissant that looks amazing and tastes even better is the real win, but it takes a thick skin to hear those kinds of things.

36 layers for a croissant and someone says its too pretty to eat? I mean, idk, feels like a weird flex to be upset about. Maybe its just me but I'd take that as a win and move on.

Right? "Thick skin" is exactly it. A baker friend got told her cake was "almost too nice to cut.
