That bread recipe my aunt gave me turned out to be a lie
My aunt swore her sourdough recipe needed 10 hours of fermentation at room temp. I followed it exactly last Saturday and ended up with a sticky mess that wouldn't hold shape. She finally admitted she uses a proofer set at 78 degrees for 6 hours instead. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from family about baking temps?

Wow, that's such a sneaky detail to leave out! So your aunt was basically giving you directions for a totally different setup than what you had at home. Did she ever explain why she didn't just tell you the real temp and time upfront?

Is this really that deep though? Feels like she just had her own little system that worked for her kitchen and figured you'd figure it out eventually. People get weirdly protective over their recipe tweaks for no real reason.

lol nah I actually get why she did it. People tweak recipes for their own setup and don't think about it being a whole different thing for someone else. It's annoying but not that deep like you said.
