Burnt a tray of macarons so bad the smoke alarm went off

Was trying a new recipe for matcha macarons and got distracted answering a text from my brother. Left them in at 300F for like 8 extra minutes and they came out dark brown and rock hard. Had to open all the windows in my apartment for an hour to get the smoke smell out. Anyone else ruin a batch by getting distracted mid bake?

Took a screenshot of your blackened macarons to show my baking crew what not to do. How long till you tried another batch after that?

Took me three days to cool off, then I realized the oven temp was running 25 degrees high. Get a cheap oven thermometer @blair_martin.

And it's always the SIMPLE stuff that gets you, right? Like we all go searching for some complicated reason why something went wrong, but nine times out of ten it's just a tiny, dumb thing we overlooked.
