My mom's one comment about my bread crust changed my whole process

Last month she took one bite of my sourdough and said "it sounds like you're eating a cracker, not bread" and that got me obsessing over my oven setup. I switched from a plain sheet pan to a cast iron dutch oven with a lid for the first 20 minutes, and now the crust is thin and shattery instead of thick and tough. Has anyone else had a family member point out something so basic that it completely flipped your baking routine?
