My neighbor's cake disaster taught me to always check my oven's calibration

She brought over a completely sunken chocolate cake, baffled because she followed the recipe exactly. I suggested she check her oven temp with a thermometer, and it was running 25 degrees cold! Has anyone else had a surprise like that fix their baking problems?

Yeah, that thermometer is a game changer. I just set mine to whatever the dial says plus 25 now.

Oh man, same thing happened to me! My cookies kept burning and it turned out my oven was way too hot. I mean, a cheap oven thermometer totally saved my baking.

My oven runs 25 degrees hot, so I have to adjust every single recipe. That thermometer is the only reason my bread even rises.
