My new $60 digital scale just saved a whole batch of cookies

I was about to add the flour by volume like always, but I weighed it instead and realized my scooping method was off by almost a cup. Has anyone else found that a scale made a huge difference for them?

Honestly, that sounds like a waste of sixty bucks. My scoop and sweep method with the same cup has worked fine for twenty years. People get too hung up on perfect numbers. A little extra flour never ruined a cookie, it just makes them a bit more cakey. I bet your old cookies were just fine and everyone ate them anyway. All this extra gear just makes baking feel like a science test instead of something fun.

Okay but you've found my secret shame (I am the person who owns the weird baking gear). I bought a fancy scale during a pandemic baking panic and now I feel like I have to use it to justify the purchase. My cookies did turn out fine before, you're right, but now I get nervous if I don't see the exact grams pop up. It's like I broke my own brain by trying to be too exact.

Saw a thing once that said scales are great for bread but can make simple stuff feel like homework. Might be time to hide the scale for a batch and just wing it, lol.
