My sourdough failed because I used the wrong water
I drove out to this spring in Vermont to get some natural water for my starter. Thought it would be like some secret ingredient. Ended up with a brick of a loaf that smelled like a pond. Anyone else try fancy water and regret it?

Spring water's usually fine, but your tap water might actually be better (less random bacteria).

My buddy Mike grabbed a bottle from a spring near his cabin up in the Poconos last summer. Had a nice day hike, chugged half the bottle, and ended up with the runs for like three straight days. Turned out some animal probably waded through the source upstream, nothing visible but definitely something in there. He still jokes about it but he filters everything now even his tap water.

Honestly, three days of the runs from some spring water sounds like a stretch. People drink from those mountain streams all the time and are fine (myself included). Probably just a bad burrito plus the hike messing with his stomach, you know?
