Spent $60 on a silicone baking mat that melted into my cookies
Bought one of those fancy non-stick silicone mats last month thinking it would replace parchment for good. My cookies turned out fine but the mat warped and left black specks all over the second batch. Turns out mine was only rated to 400°F and I had the oven at 425°F for a crisper edge. Check the temp rating before you buy, I just threw mine in the trash. Anyone else ruined a batch because of a mat or pan that couldn't handle the heat?

I used to think all silicone mats were basically the same, but that changed fast after I bought one from a random brand on sale. It said "oven safe" on the box, but I didn't check the fine print until it started curling up on a pizza stone at 450. The worst part was the smell, it was like burning plastic mixed with my dough. Now I always look for the little temperature stamp on the corner before I even put it in the cart.
