The cinnamon roll disaster at my church bake sale changed how I measure flour

I signed up to bring cinnamon rolls for our church bake sale in Topeka last spring. Made them exactly like I always do but they came out like dry hockey pucks. Nobody bought a single one and Mrs. Patterson said they were 'a bit dense' which is church lady code for terrible. Turns out I'd been scooping flour straight from the bag instead of spooning it into the cup and leveling it off. After that I bought a kitchen scale for 15 bucks and now I weigh everything for baking. Has anyone else had a baking fail that made you completely change your approach?

Oh man, same thing happened to me with chocolate chip cookies at a family reunion. I was scooping flour like a madwoman and they ended up tasting like salty bricks with a few chips. Now I swear by the kitchen scale too, it's the only way I don't screw up my banana bread now.

My kitchen scale has totally changed my baking game too. Started using it after I tried to double a muffin recipe by eye and ended up with what can only be described as cement pucks. Now I weigh everything from flour to chocolate chips and my friends actually ask for my stuff instead of politely eating it.

Ngl I've never used a scale in my life and my cakes turn out fine. Maybe I'm just lucky but measuring cups work perfectly for me, even when I double stuff.
