The tart crust feedback that stung but helped
My aunt tried my lemon tart and said the crust was like a cracker. Not in a good way. She told me I was overworking the dough, making it tough. I started mixing until it just comes together, no more. Now I chill it for 30 minutes before rolling. Has anyone else gotten harsh family feedback that actually fixed a recipe?

Crust was like a cracker" oof, that's one of those comments that sticks with you because they're not wrong. My dad told me my pie dough tasted like "cardboard with butter" once, which was brutal but accurate. I started doing the same thing you did - mixing less and chilling more. Now I also use frozen butter and grate it into the flour so I don't have to work it as much. Still get the occasional "hmm, it's good but..." from him, but at least cardboard isn't mentioned anymore.

Wait, your dad said it tasted like cardboard with butter?! That's brutal but honestly kind of hilarious at the same time. I would have been so mad at first but then laughed about it later. The frozen butter trick is genius though, I never thought of grating it. I usually just cube mine and hope for the best. My brother once told me my shortbread felt like eating a saltine cracker dipped in sugar and that forced me to actually look up the right ratios for once.
