Took me 3 hours to figure out my oven runs 25 degrees hot

Honestly, I've been wondering why my cookies always came out flat and burnt on the bottom for like 6 months. Bought an oven thermometer from the Ace Hardware on Main Street and turns out my oven is 25 degrees hotter than what I set it to. Has anyone else had to recalibrate their oven and how long did it take you to figure it out?

Oh man, that flat and burnt bottom thing hits home. I had the same exact problem for months before a neighbor clued me in to grab a thermometer.

The temperature issue usually masks a bigger problem though. A lot of people don't realize their oven runs cold so they crank the heat way up to compensate, and then the heating element at the bottom just scorches everything underneath. I had to get an oven thermometer and discovered my oven was off by 65 degrees. Fixed the burnt bottoms overnight but also made me realize how many other recipes I had ruined over the years.

That Wendy Price comment was spot on about the burnt bottoms, I had to replace my heating element after the same problem.
