TIL a $12 silicone mat was the only thing between me and a cookie sheet full of charcoal
Bought one of those silicone baking mats at a Target in Columbus back in March just because it was on clearance. Fast forward to last weekend when I forgot a tray of chocolate chip cookies in the oven for 24 minutes and expected to be scraping blackened hockey pucks off metal. Instead the cookies slid right off and the mat wiped clean in like ten seconds, no scrubbing, no foil stuck to the bottoms. My old cookie sheets have permanent burnt rings from years of this exact mistake. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has one kitchen thing under $20 that keeps saving their bakes, because I'm ready to buy more of them.
Always figured those mats were overpriced gimmicks and stuck with parchment paper until my wife brought one home. Now I feel dumb for waiting so long because cleanup alone is worth way more than the twelve bucks. The mat basically pays for itself the first time you space out and burn a batch.
