Why did it take me 12 years to realize my oven runs 25 degrees hot?

My cookies kept browning on the bottom no matter what I did, and then my neighbor loaned me her oven thermometer, and I found out my whole baking life was a lie, so the real question is how many of you actually trust your oven dial?

Right, same thing happened to me with my old oven, it ran 30 degrees cold and my bread was always raw in the middle. I only figured it out when I bought a separate thermometer for a turkey one Thanksgiving and thought the dial was broken. Now I never trust any oven without checking it first, it's honestly the biggest secret in baking.
