Can we talk about ignoring advice on thinning shears?
My mentor in Chicago told me to never use thinning shears on dry hair, but I figured it was fine for a quick touch-up. I ended up creating a huge hole in a client's fade that took three months to grow out. Anyone else learned this the hard way?

Ugh, I've done that too.

Honestly I've had good luck with dry cutting sometimes. It just depends on your hair type and what you're going for.

Oh man, that's a tough lesson. I learned the same thing early on. The problem is, dry hair doesn't lay the same way it does when it's wet, so you can't see the true weight or how it will fall. What looks like a little texture on dry hair becomes a massive chunk missing once it's washed and styled. I only ever use them on damp hair now, and even then, I'm super careful. That rule exists for a very good reason.
