Clipper over comb or scissors over comb, which one do you trust more?

I learned clipper over comb in barber school but switched to scissors over comb for the last 6 months on fades. The control feels better but it takes me twice as long. Anyone else pick one side and regret it, or switch back after a few rough cuts?

Honestly the real move is matching the tool to the hair type, not picking a side forever. Fine or thinning hair, clipper over comb will absolutely chew it up and leave those weird ridges you can't fix. Coarse or curly hair, scissors over comb just folds the hair over and you end up guessing where you're at. I did the same switch you did and it took me a solid two months before I stopped second guessing every curve on the neckline. Now I grab the clippers for the bulk and the finish with scissors on trouble spots. It's like using a hammer for nails and a screwdriver for screws, they're both necessary.

Nah man, hard disagree. Youre overcomplicating this. Clipper over comb works on every hair type if you know what youre doing. Fine hair? Just use a lighter touch and shorter strokes. Coarse hair? The clipper cuts through it way cleaner than scissors ever will. Scissors over comb is for old school barbers who never learned to feather properly with a clipper. Ive been doing this for years and never touch scissors on a fade, period. Switching tools mid cut just invites inconsistencies. Pick one method, master it, and stop blaming the hair for your own shaky hands.
